One day I had decided to come up with nicknames for each team member. I knew they had to come naturally, but I also wanted to get ahead. Thus the names were born.
Baby Stapf: Jessica
This one is actually fairly easy to explain, Jessica Lynne would consistently talk about “Mama Stapf” and “Poppa Stapf” and I thought: One fateful day 21-some years ago, Baby Stapf was conceived. So that day Baby Stapf was conceived… As a nickname, not as a human.
Dennis Miller aka DMV: Shane
Although this technically does not constitute as a nickname, in a sense it is. Dennis Miller’s father is named Dennis Miller and his father in turn is named Dennis Miller. Our Dennis Miller goes by Shane, so the Nickname Dennis Miller technically is not his name… according to him. DMV was a bit of an offset from Dennis Miller; DM. The V stemmed from the commonly known Department of Motor Vehicles. Contrary to the origin some believe to be Dennis Miller Venancio -_- (smh)
Kewl: Kendra
You know how Eric Cartman says cool? Well that’s kind of how this is supposed to be pronounced. Easily enough Kendra Eull → K.Eull → Kewl. That and she’s pretty cool.
G. Simon: Grace
Similarly to Kewl, G. Simon came about in an attempt to manipulate Grace’s name, Grace Simoneau. I couldn’t get the notion out of my head of Simon eau, eau in French being water, so “Simon water”. Later it just blended into G. Simon. Simple enough.
Mahogany: Courtney
This one is probably the most bizarre. Courtney Green naturally called for Cee Lo Green. That was a done deal. But after some conversation, Courtney was opposed to the name, as she had been called that previously and hated it. So when I went back to the drawing board, I wanted something that maintained the ‘Green’ aspect of her name. Green led to nature, which led to plants, which led to trees, and Mahogany became the clear choice.
B. Bri: Brandi
This one is also a bit simplistic. I believe I pondered my options at the RRCC a bit, then after some discussion; some names were tossed out, some names were rejected, and B. Bri was a consensus.
H.Mony: Harmony
Harmony came with a few nicknames attached to her; H.Mony and Chai Tea being the most prominent. The relation of H. Mony and Money, thus making it rain, was too great for me to resist, so H. Mony was the only option.
Venison: Greg
I’m not entirely sure on this being a real word, but I assume it is, despite consistent spell check errors. After the daily discussions of eating deer after each time one passed the van (Which is infinitely many when you are in Perry Point) made this a definite yet. Despite opposition from Greg, namely that he eats, not is, venison, it stuck.
Hot Tamale: Josh
This one stemmed primarily from irony. It seemed simple, Firefighter = Hot tamale. The irony (among many) is that Josh hates spicy food. Upon learning that, it was a clear choice.
Thus we have Otter Six, in all our nicknamed glory. Myself excluded of course, as I do not have a nickname.
